Running total, pages:  191

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Utah
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? The Haunting of Hill House. I'm just in that mood!
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Hmm. I'm trying not to eat sugar (it makes me sleepy) so popcorn, I guess.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I do a lot of non-partisan political and community volunteer work. Remember to vote!
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today?  I hope to break my record for actual reading hours.

RAT Snacks

Here are a few of my snacks - ha ha. On the meal menu is a reheated omelette for breakfast, a salad with chicken for lunch, and veggie pizza for dinner. A Cherry Coke Zero at midnight, lots of tea, and sparkling water should take care of the beverages. All ready to go at 6:00 a.m. (only 6 hours from now - yikes, must get to bed).

Dewey's Readathon is Coming Up!

I'm so happy I can participate in this again. Every once in awhile I can't do it because of travel, but this will be my 17th (counting the Reverse Readathon in August)! It's honestly like a really fun holiday and I look forward to it, as I know many others do. I'm still refining my stack, so will be back with that soon.

ETA: 10/17/19 - Ok, here is my traditional stack of 10!
Dumb Witness (Kindle) - Agatha Christie
The Little Book of Sloth Philosophy - Jennifer McCartney
Quiet Girl in a Noisy World (graphic) - Debbie Tung
Good Talk (graphic) - Mira Jacob
The Haunting of Hill House - Shirley Jackson
The Message in the Hollow Oak (always need a Nancy Drew for RAT) - Carolyn Keene
City of Glass (first in The New York Trilogy) - Paul Auster
The Vegan Starter Kit - Neal D. Barnard
In the Bedroom (short stories) - Andre Dubus
The Woman Who Died a Lot (also on audio) - Jasper Fforde

Almost all short books this time. Can't wait to get going! I'm going to try hard to finish all 4 books I'm currently reading before the 26th, so I can "start fresh".

Bout of Books 26

It's time for another reading event. Yay! My goal for Bout of Books is always 1000 pages, but I'm not likely to get there this time around - just too many other things going on this week. However, it will be fun to participate even if I only make it to 100 pages (although seriously, I hope I can do better than that). 😉 Here's the blurb from their website:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 19th and runs through Sunday, August 25th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, Twitter chats, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 26 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team

I'll be focusing on finishing the 4 books I have in progress:
   1776 by David McCullough
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers
Murder in Mesopotamia by Agatha Christie
The PreHistory of The Far Side by Gary Larson

24in48 Readathon

24in48 is coming up in one month. Would I like an excuse to read all weekend? Why yes, thank you!! I'll be back in a few weeks with the stack.

ETA 7/18/19: And here it is! The reason it's such a giant stack is that it also includes books I'll be reading for Dewey's Reverse Readathon in 2 weeks (as well as in-between reading). Ready to go tomorrow at 10:00 p.m. MST!

Sunday, April 7, 2019

Not bad, although I would have liked to have a higher page total. The time I spent updating on Goodreads and Litsy took time away from reading, but it was worth it. The social media aspect is part of the fun. Can't wait to do it again!

Running total, pages: 210
Running total, hours: 3 hours reading, 25 min listening

Getting to Know You Survey

1)What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Utah
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? Can't pick just one. They all look great.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? I have a dental issue and am going to stick with soft foods today, so think I may have to send the hubs out to fetch ice cream!
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I am known amongst my friends as a huge "book nerd" :)
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? I would just like to read more pages than I usually do; otherwise, everything the same.

Dewey's Readathon April 6, 2019

It's almost time! I can't wait to devote a whole day/night to reading. Back in a few days with the stack...

One, Two, Buckle My Shoe (on Kindle) by Agatha Christie - Because it's tradition to have a Christie in my stack).
The Clue of the Broken Locket by Carolyn Keene - Ditto for Nancy Drew (fodder for the wee hours).
The Enchanted Castle by E. Nesbit - A children's classic I've been meaning to get to for a long time.
Kid Gloves by Lucy Knisley - Graphic for variety.
So Lucky by Nicola Griffith - From The Tournament of Books 2019 short list, sort of my "theme" this RAT.
My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite - ToB 2019.
Paris for One by JoJo Moyes - Short stories, again for variety.
The Friend by Sigrid Nunez - ToB, summer 2018.
There There by Tommy Orange - ToB 2019.
Washington Black by Esi Edugyan - ToB 2019.
The Overstory by Richard Powers - ToB 2019, currently in progress. I may or may not get to this tomorrow. It's kind of nice to "start fresh".

Total hours: 17 hr 50 min

This is a new record for me for 24in48! Maybe I can hit 19 hours next time :) I listened to audio while watching Australian Open tennis and basketball (with the sound muted), and while in the car. The hubby was out of town and I only left the house to go to a basketball game today, so it was a pretty successful reading weekend for me.

24in48 !!

Well, just finished one reading event and now signing up for another. Fantastic! 24in48 is coming up on January 26/27, and it just so happens the hubby will be out of town.  My books and I plan on spending plenty of quality time together! I'll update next week with my stack of possibilities (many books are vying for my attention - we'll see who gets chosen ;)

ETA Jan. 24 - Here's the stack! I've tried to select several short-ish books from my shelves that I can fit into my reading challenge (Goodreads Seasonal Reading Challenge). I'll probably only read a couple on the weekend, but I love having plenty of choices. I have a few of these on audio as well. Not pictured: Lady Fortecue Steps Out (on Kindle) by M.C. Beaton

Ready to go tomorrow evening at 10:00 p.m!
