Hours 19 - 24

The Clue in the Jewel Box - 25 pgs
The Stand - 34 pgs
Horse - 35 pgs
Freewater - 50 pgs

Final total, pages: 642
Final total, hours: 13 hr 40 min (9 hr 50 min reading, 3 hr 50 min audio)

Summary:
The hours-read total might be a record for me! I probably should have had just half of that 20-oz Diet Coke at 11:00 p.m. because I didn't sleep at all (although I tried to for about an hour)! I slept a few hours after the RAT was over, though, so I'm ok. I read one full book, and started all nine others in my stack. I had two already in-progress that I had put aside until after the readathon, so that makes a total of 11 books I'm currently-reading - also a record, I think! πŸ˜„ I'm especially enjoying Horse, The Great Believers, and The Stand. Can't wait for the next excuse to unplug from the world and hang out with my books! πŸ“š

Hours 13 - 18

Freewater - 10 pgs (audio)
Brida - 65 pgs
The Great Believers - 36 pgs
The Bandit Queens - 43 pgs

Running total, pages: 498
Running total, hours: 7 hr 30 min reading, 2 hr 54 min audio

Just had a Diet Coke and hope to get at least a few more hours in. I'm enjoying all my books!

Saturday, October 21, 2023

Hours 7 - 12

Whereabouts - 54 pgs, finished (audio)
Every Day in Tuscany - 45 pgs
The Stand - 47 pgs

Running total, pages: 344
Running total, hours: 4 hr 20 min reading, 3 hr 21 min audio

I'm enjoying all the books so far! I'll probably continue jumping around during the second half of the RAT. Luckily, my books are all different enough I can get away with that.

Hours 1 - 6

Circe - 51 pgs
Horse - 44 pgs
Whereabouts - 103 pgs (audio)

Running total, pages: 198
Running total, hours: 2 hr reading, 1 hr 45 min audio

I've decided on 6-hour updates this time. I got a slow start, as I read for an hour then slept for an hour (I think I did the same thing last readathon). I'm going to get dressed (it's noon) and go for an "audiowalk" to finish up Whereabouts

(I'm posting this late, so ignore the time stamp.)

Bout of Books 38

I'm planning to join Bout of Books once again. I can't believe this is number 38! I'll have to count how many times I've participated. I have an international flight on Day 4, so have high hopes for racking up a lot of pages that day.

The Bout of Books readathon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It’s a weeklong readathon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 21st and runs through Sunday, August 27th in YOUR time zone. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are reading sprints, daily Discord questions, and exclusive Instagram challenges, but they’re all completely optional. For all Bout of Books 38 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team

TBR:

The Crime at Black Dudley by Margery Allingham (in progress)
Clarissa, or, the History of a Young Lady by Samuel Richardson (in progress - year-long read in a GR group)
LaRose by Louise Erdrich
The Secret Pilgrim by John le CarrΓ©
The Girl in His Shadow by Audrey Blake
The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber
The Diary of a Nobody by George Grossmith

This is just a tentative plan. It will be mostly Kindle reading this time, and I have a LOT of books on there so I may start something else.

Summary

The Easy Life in Kamusari - 189 pages, finished. I really enjoyed this, plus I learned a lot about forestry.
The Book of Goose - 81 pages. Won the Tournmant of Books this year, but I'm not enamored so far.
The Last Cuentista - 132 pages. This Dystopian thriller won the 2022 Newbery, and I can't wait to get back to the audiobook!
The Green Mile - 47 pages. Stephen King - 'nuff said. Another I can't wait to get back to.

Total, pages: 449
Total, hours: 9 hr 14 min (6 hr 30 min reading, 2 hr 44 min audio)

I'm pleased with my results, given I took the evening "off".

Hours 13 - 18

 Since last update:

The Green Mile - 47 pgs

I ended up hanging out with family most of the evening. I'll likely turn in soon, but am hoping to be back for the last hour. Final update tomorrow.

Hours 7 - 12

 Since last update:

The Easy Life in Kamusari - Last 131 pgs. I really enjoyed this one.
The Last Cuentista - 56 pgs (audio). This is a a Newbery winner and very good. I took a nice walk while listening and just wanted to keep going!

My daughter will be arriving soon, so I'll be taking an hour or two off then getting back to it!

Saturday, April 29, 2023

Hours 1 - 6

Aaack! The time is going by too fast! I had an exhausting week and didn't get enough sleep last night, so I'm taking a more relaxed approach this time. I read the first hour, then napped the second. I'll probably do 6-hour updates here with pages read, then add hours at the end.

The Book of Goose - 81 pgs
The Last Cuentista - 17 pgs (audio)
The Easy Life in Kamusari - 58 pgs
